Lakewood Church Health Fair with MAPSA (102019)
On Saturday, October 20th, 2019 SNPhA was invited to attend the Lakewood Church Health Fair with MAPSA, where both organizations worked together to provide free health screenings and various disease education to the underserved population. With the help of the Mental Health, Diabetes, Power to End Stroke, and Project Keepsake initiatives, SNPhA was able to educate dozens of people over so many different disease states! Thank you MAPSA for inviting us to this health fair, it was definitely a success!

Pause with Paws (100819)
On October 8th, 2019 the University of Houston SNPhA Mental Health Initiative hosted a de-stress event called Pause for Paws. In the midst of exam chaos and studying, students and faculty were able to take a breather and interact with dogs and listen to music as a way to take their mind off the busy week. There was also an interactive booth where students could write something they were grateful for. As shown in a Harvard study, expressing gratitude is a good way to cultivate happiness and ease your mind. SNPhA & PPA Mixer (100219)
UH SNPhA's Community Outreach Co-Chairs (Jenny Quach & Luan Truong), and Social Chair (Trina Mercado) collaborated with UH Pre-Pharmacy Association to host the first Mentorship Mixer! Undergraduate students were able to learn more about SNPhA through a small presentation, and also met some of our current SNPhA members through icebreaker activity, and speed dating. Second General Meeting (100219)
On October 2nd, 2019, SNPhA hosted their second general meeting of the semester. We had a special guest, Tracy M. Ellimutti, PharmD. Dr. Ellimutti is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist I - Solid Organ Transplant at Houston Methodist Hospital, as well as a past UH SNPhA President. CKD Certification (093019)
On September 30th, the Project Keepsake Initiative kicked off a hectic week with their bi-annual Kidney Health Coach Certification! The Kidney Health Coach program is an initiative launched by the American Kidney Fund to promote basic education about chronic kidney disease in the community. During the certification program, the Project Keepsake co-chairs went over CKD etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and prevention strategies. These tools from the certification program will make a monumental difference in the community.
